Plotting to the HayesPlotter1 from IllustratorCS3

Before printing, it is important to remember a few things with Illustrator:

When opening a new document be aware of your Document Setup options (go to File, then Document Setup). The Art board size is strictly your 'canvas size' this is the space allotted for you to design upon. When setting up your printer options, if the Art board is wider in any dimension than 36" x 36" you will need to select the Custom Plotter as it allows printing up to 60".

If you select for your document to be printed on a plotter and your actual image size is 4"x6" and you actually desire your image to fill a 24"x36" space, then you need to take another look at your actual image. Illustrator will not scale your image in anyway; this all depends on what you see within the Art board space and in the Print Preview (go to File, Print) and there is always a preview.

Step 1 : Select File, then Print.

Step 2 : Select printer; \\arpl-5\HayesPlotter1 from the drop down menu. : The print preview window where we see only part of the duck's head will only show correctly, AFTER you have selected the correct paper size to print on. : Select Setup to verify that correct Printer is selected.

Click on Preferences.

Step 3 : In the Printing Preference window which appears, under Application Page Size, click on the More sizes button to customize your paper size selection.

Step 4 : Input your custom page size (in this case 36"x36") and click ok.

At this point, your Plotter and page size should all be set, now select your Paper Type, either by roll or by type and click ok to close all dialog boxes.

Step 5 : When you arrive to the original Print screen, the preview of your image will need to be moved, by simply taking your mouse and dragging the image to the center of the preview window. This will ensure that your image is centered on the page.

Step 6 : Once everything has been selected and the preview is correct select Print to send your document to the plotter.
