Computer Abuse and Software Installation Policy

Installing unauthorized software on any of the systems that are part of the Computing Resource Labs not only degrades the quality of our computing environment but is a direct violation of the CIT Usage Policy. Any user that is found to have installed unauthorized software and / or left personal data on any of the systems within the School of Architecture and Planning are subject to the following disciplinary policies.

First Offense: When it is found that an offense has occurred, each offense will be presented with a written notice in their departmental mail box located on the second floor of Hayes Hall. This letter will act as a warning, describe the offending activity and educate each user as to how to avoid any further infractions.

Second Offense: When it is found that a second offense has occurred after the notification date from the first, the user's account will be locked and all computing privileges revoked until such time as the user contacts Doug McCallum in room 201C Hayes Hall.

Additional Offenses: After the second offense and receipt of the written warning, a $25 fine will be assessed against the offending student's account for each instance of unauthorized software installation which occurs. The processing fee will cover the restoration of the system back to its original condition.
