Managing your email attachments

Email attachments can be a hidden source of email account clutter that often go overlooked. It is important to remove any attachments after they arrive in order to make sure that they do not cause email account problems down the road. These directions will demonstrate how to save the attachment to another location (I:\ or S:\ drives), remove the attachment from the email and save the email.

In the example above, the email has a 10MB attachement that can be saved to a network drive and removed from the email so that the email can be retained for future reference..

  1. First start by double clicking on the email listed in the Inbox.
  2. After it opens, right click on the attachment that is displayed in the email header under Subject and select the option to SAVE AS...
When the Save Attachment window appear, save the attachment to a desired location on the I:\ or S:\ drive for future reference. Click the SAVE button once the proper location has been selected in the Save in: window.

Once the attachment has been saved, it can now be removed from the email.

  1. Right click on the name of the email attachment and select the Remove option. Depending on the size of the attachment, this step may take a moment or two in order to complete.
  2. Now that the attachment is gone, the email can now be closed.
When the altered (no attachment) email is closed, you MUST save changes to the email in order for the attachement discarded. You can now repeat this process for each email which has a large attachment included in it.
