Laser Cutter Tips

  • Make sure none of your lines are on the (ZERO) layer.
  • Make sure you are in a 2D format. The laser cutter will not read 3D files.
  • Make sure you are only choosing colors 1-7 from the color index for each layer.
  • Share lines as often as possible; this will cut down on your time and save you money!
  • Make sure you do not have overlapping lines; the laser will cut each line (even if you can't see them, the laser can! Be aware!)
  • Be aware that the power and speed settings are ONLY GUIDES!
  • Create a new layer (CUT) make it white and put all cut lines on this layer.
  • Create a new layer (ETCH) make it red and put all etch lines on this layer.
  • Create a new layer (BOX) make it yellow; make this a no plot layer.
    • If your cut is not in the 1:1 ratio you do not need the (BOX) layer.
    • If your cut is set to 1:1 ratio, draw a 32" x 18" box on your (BOX) layer.
  • Make sure your drawing is in the bottom left corner of the yellow box.
  • When plotting your laser cut, drag your window over the 32" x 18" box you have drawn.
  • Make sure you are using the (Laser Cutter) as your plotter.
  • Make sure you have (Universal Laser) as your pen assignments.
  • HAVE THE (SETTING UP AUTO CAD) OPEN ON YOUR DESK TOP WHILE SENDING YOUR FILES!
